Everyone loves to cuddle their partner, right? But did you know that those cuddles, whether it’s just a lazy Sunday on the sofa or your usual way of cuddling up to sleep – yes, they can say a lot about your relationship. Or so the internet tells us. So here are just a few cuddling positions and what they can tell us about your relationship with your significant other.
Full body hug
You know that hug where you’re on top of each other, all your limbs intertwined, and it’s hard to tell where one ends and the other begins? Yes, it’s intense. And pretty embarrassing if you ask me. So don’t worry if you and your partner don’t sleep like that. It’s one of those cuddling positions that only happens at the beginning of a relationship, when everything is hot and steamy and you feel like you never want to stop touching or spend a second apart.
Head on chest
It’s the classic movie hug. Think about it, every time you see a couple lying in bed in the movies, one of them has their head resting on the other’s chest. This is the most romantic cuddling position, plus you can hear the other person’s heartbeat, which is usually quite a comforting thing. If this is your preferred cuddling position, then you are one of those super romantic couples who are all about taking care of each other and feeling safe.
One hand/foot touch
If you sleep next to each other and touch only one hand, lazily crossing a leg over the other person, it means that you are in a healthy relationship. You both appreciate a healthy amount of personal space, but you still want to keep in touch with your partner while they’re sleeping, just to let them know you’re there. Honestly, this is the best and most comfortable way to sleep and cuddle.
Face to face
Sleeping face to face probably means you talk a lot before falling asleep. Bedtime talks are amazing, don’t get me wrong, but how do you sleep when someone is constantly breathing in your face? (asking for a friend). But I digress, this position means that communication is the most important thing in your relationship, and that’s great.
Many couples sleep while drinking. You know, one of you is the little spoon and the other is the big spoon. This cuddling position is a crowd favorite. The big spoon is usually the person who is protective in the relationship and the little spoon is the person who likes to feel safe and cared for. But if you continue to change and you both become the little spoon and the big spoon – congratulations, you are in a very balanced relationship where each person can be protected and feel safe and cared for at the same time.
If one of you is sleeping in a starfish position, taking up most of the space, and the other person is just getting by by curling up around the other person, on the little space left on the bed – this means that one of you is ready to sacrifice a lot for the other, even their own comfort. It sounds very romantic, but if you do this all the time, how will you sleep well?
Now, that’s interesting. Depending on how often this happens and what the room temperature is, this could mean one of many things. Maybe you live in a hot climate and don’t want anyone touching you while you sleep. Or maybe you both just feel that touching while sleeping isn’t something you enjoy and feel comfortable without the need to cling to the other person. Or maybe your relationship is falling apart to the point where you don’t even want to touch each other in your sleep. But if that’s the case, you don’t need an article about internet cuddling to tell you that, you probably already know.
